Bangladesh Trademark registration
Trademark Protection in Bangladesh is governed by the colonial Trademark Act of 1940, as national law of 1963. Trademark protection is obtained by registration.
Requirements
A trademark application has to be filed before the Patent Office. A non-legalized power of attorney is sufficient. A postal address within Bangladesh is sufficient. Foreign applicants do not need a domestic registration.
Procedure
The application process includes only a formal examination, without indication of possible identical or similar trademarks. It takes approximately 6 years from first filing to registration of a trademark. After registration the trademark is published in the [Trademarks Journal". Duly note, in Bangladesh the opposition period is 4 months from publication date of the application.
Duration
A trademark registration in Bangladesh is valid for 7 years and starts with registration date. The registration is renewable for periods of 15 years.
