AC drive for electric motor controls

If an electric motor has been designed and manufactured with a Class B or 80°c temperature rise (i.e. the average increase in internal temperature above ambient, under full load condition), the motor will operate at this temperature if the load and speed is as per the blue curve. Should the motor be loaded by a resisting torque less than this the motor will operate at a temperature lower than 80°c. Thus, the key to motor selection for AC drive applications is to select a motor where the load curve is below the derating curve.

High performance AC drive cables tend to be constructed with flexible high flex (high strand count) tinned conductors, while construction grade products tend to be made with 7 or 19 strands of bare copper per construction product standards. The result is that the high performance product is more flexible, more thermally stable at connection points, and as a result of the 4-8 times increase in conductor surface area, much more attractive for the high frequency AC drive output components.

Optimal Flux is a unique AC drive function that can be used with an IE2 (Premium Efficiency) motor that eliminates the need of a forced cooling fan for operation at low speeds. The AC drive manipulates the IGBT switching frequency at low speeds to achieve the most efficient operating condition with a significant reduction in I²R losses and therefore heat. Consult the manufacturer for the availability and implementation of this function.

In my mind, these Tenter machines were designed long ago with all the air flow factors taken into account. But I am always prepared to be taught something.
Incidentally, I had never used these Gozuk AC drives before and I liked them. Easy to set up with plenty macro`s and functions and esthetically pleasing too.
One last thing, I also thought the salesman did overkill on the programming plug in units. (30 of them) Some of the other machines are going to have 8 AC drives side by side inside a panel that only me is ever going to go in.
