Zirconia Ceramic:

Stabilized zirconia for industrial refractories, mostly made by electrofusion. In the process of zircon electrofusion, carbon and stabilizer calcium oxide are added. At the same time as silicon removal, zirconia and calcium oxide react to form a solid solution, and then pulverized and granulated to obtain stable zirconia. Stable and partially stabilized zirconia for fine ceramics is typically prepared by wet processing. At present, the most mature and commonly used is the neutralization precipitation method, and the preparation process is shown in the figure. The purified zirconium oxychloride is dissolved in pure water, filtered to remove insoluble matter, the zirconium concentration in the solution is adjusted, and the required amount of barium chloride solution (or other rare earth metal or alkaline earth metal chloride solution) is added, and then ammonia water is added. Neutralize the precipitate. The precipitate is washed with hot water, filtered, dried and calcined. The calcined product is subjected to pulverization or the like to obtain an ultrafine stabilized zirconia powder.
Partially stabilized zirconia is prepared by controlling the amount of stabilizer added so that it is not sufficiently stable to achieve complete stability. Partially stabilized zirconia has high strength and thermal shock resistance and is used in a wide range of applications in structural ceramics.
