Normally, 940nm LED will be packaged with 5mm through-hole LED size or other SMD LED case. But for some project, people have to used larger lens to increase the radiating area. Compare with 5mm through-hole 940nm LED. 8mm IR LED will got a bigger lens than it and because of this lens, these 8mm infrared LED will got a more larger beam width which means it will make the IR LED got more radiating area.
