Detect early failure of hydraulic brakes: The easy braking feel you're used to and the responsiveness of the pedals under your feet boils down to a complex combination of components, including hydraulic high-pressure sensors. The on-board system detects the pressure you're putting on the pedals and then amplifies it to make your efforts more effective. These systems use hydraulic high-pressure sensors to monitor the degree of vacuum in two separate chambers within the brake servo system. Under normal operating conditions, atmospheric pressure flows into one of the chambers when the brake pedal is pressed. This increases the pressure on the diaphragm, which in turn increases the force exerted on the master cylinder. When the brake pedal is released, the vacuum is restored using a vacuum source, which can be drawn through a dedicated pump or from the manifold. Failure occurs if the vacuum in one or both chambers cannot be maintained or restored. Absolute pressure sensors are used to monitor cabin pressure and alert the driver or engine management system if the cabin pressure is not low enough to be used. Without a way to measure indoor pressure, the system could malfunction without the driver's knowledge and lead to a sudden loss of braking ability just when it is needed most.
