Milling is a process of cutting metal by a rotating tool driven by a spindle and moving the workpiece. Milling can be carried out on the workpiece plane processing, groove processing, tapping, drilling, reaming, boring, chamfering, and gear processing.
There are two ways: forward milling and reverse milling
When using a cylindrical milling cutter, the milling mode can be divided into forwarding milling and reverse milling. When the workpiece feed direction and cylindrical milling cutter cutting speed direction at the same time are called forward milling when the workpiece feed direction and cylindrical milling cutter cutting direction are opposite called inverse milling.
Downmilling is beneficial to improve the life of the tool and the stability of the workpiece clamping, but it is easy to cause the movement of the table, and even cause accidents. Therefore, the machine tool should have the device to eliminate the gap between the lead screw and the nut when down milling and the processing range of down milling is suitable for the workpiece without hard skin. When finishing, the milling force is small, and it is not easy to cause the movement of the table. There is always a downward component to press the workpiece to make the milling smooth; The cutting thickness of each cutter tooth is reduced from the maximum to zero, which is easy to cut into the workpiece, and the extrusion friction of the machined surface is also small when cutting out, and the quality of the machined surface is higher, and the power consumed in the direction of the feed movement is small.
Reverse milling is mainly used for rough machining. It is used when machining castings and forgings with hard skin. When using the milling machine without a screw nut adjustment mechanism, inverse milling should also be adopted. In conventional milling, the cutting edge is not from the surface of the workpiece cut, so the milling surface is crustaceous artifacts, minimal damage on a cutting edge, but at the moment of each blade increases from zero to the maximum cutting thickness, because there are circular arc edge, so the cutter tooth contact artifacts to slide after a distance to cut into the workpiece, cutting edge wear and tear, and have been squeezed and machined surface friction, Affect the quality of the machined surface.
Conventional milling, horizontal component and workpiece feed in the opposite direction, don't pull the workbench, between screw and nut, bearing always keep close contact and not loose, but inverse milling can be induced in upward vertical component, has a rising trend of components, therefore, must make the workpiece clamping and firm, and the vertical component is changing in the process of cutting, prone to vibration, The roughness of workpiece surface is affected. The power consumed in the feed direction is larger in reverse milling.
CNC milling machine and machining center each feed shaft widely used ball screw, small clearance, direction clearance automatic compensation, the choice of forward and reverse milling is not as strict as ordinary milling machine requirements.
