What is the difference between ONT and ONU?

An ONT can be understood as an ONU (Optical Network Unit), but in a strict sense it is a part of the ONU.
The difference between the two is that the ONT is an optical network terminal and is located directly at the user side; while the ONU is an optical network unit, and there may be other networks between the user and the user, such as a gateway device that can be connected to the xDSL or Ethernet access port under the ONU. Access to the network terminal.
