Looking back over the last 30 plus years, things in the industrial
inverter industry have changed dramatically.
When I started, SCR's were the big thing, and all the inverters were analog designs, They were created by the masters of the trade and make no mistake, it was an art form.
Creating an amplifier circuit that did not create noise itself, or be affected by noise, was a definite art and I was lucky enough to be around a few of the best-designers-ever, in my book.
As example, the man who created the DC6 inverter platform – which has proven to be one of the best and most stable analog frequency inverters ever created - some of these inverters are still running 34 years later and this is a testament to the ability and genius of these type of men.

Starting out with Ward Lenard motor generator sets on the Gold mines in South Africa I became used to large HP systems. It's strange that years later after relocating to Canada, I had the opportunity to commission a clam-shell barge unloader using motor generator sets, but with the added touch of using solid state generator field controllers. I have never seen a more responsive and accurate control system ever; it was absolutely amazing to witness the precision and effortless power being transferred from forward to reverse motoring without any dead band or physical reaction from the gear boxes. Who says the old technology does not work? When actually set up correctly, it performs beautifully.
